Academic Advising
Academic advising is available Monday-Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm by phone at (847) 808-8444 or by emailing Leili McMurrough.
Excused Absences and Extensions
Excused absences consist of:
- A physician’s letter stating that you were in his/her office due to illness, (routine appointments may be scheduled after class or Friday-Sunday, and therefore, do not constitute an excused absence).
- Attending the funeral of a close family member or friend.
- Interviews for internship positions documented by the prospective employer.
- Documented jury duty or other court obligations.
- Documented National Guard or other military duties.
When an excuse is presented to the office for consideration to be excused, it is important that the notation on the memo or letter clearly states the name of the student and the actual day(s) absent from classes.
Missed Assignment Due to Bereavement Policy
Worsham understands that the loss of a loved one can be a difficult and emotional time. In order to support students during such times, Worsham has established the following policy for missed assignments due to bereavement:
- Notification: It is the responsibility of the student to notify their instructors, online advisor, and program director as soon as possible after the loss of a loved one. The student will need to provide appropriate documentation (e.g., obituary notice, funeral program, etc.) to the program director.
- Extensions: A student who experiences a loss of a family member will be granted an extension of one week (7 days) to submit any missed assignments. No extensions can be made past the close of the semester for any reason.
- Communication: During the bereavement, the student is expected to stay in communication with their instructors regarding any changes to their situation.
- No Penalty: There will be no penalty to the student’s grade for missed assignments due to bereavement for the one-week (7-day) extension.
It is important to note that this policy does not apply to planned absences or absences due to illness or injury.
This policy applies to all college courses unless otherwise noted.
Worsham is committed to supporting students during difficult times and will work with them to ensure they can complete their coursework while also taking care of themselves and their families.
Extension Due to Illness Policy
Worsham recognizes that a student may experience an unexpected illness or injury during the semester. In order to support students during such times, the college has established the following policy for extensions due to illness:
- Notification: It is the responsibility of the student to notify their online advisor, and program director as soon as possible after experiencing an illness or injury that will impact their ability to complete coursework. The student should provide appropriate documentation (e.g., doctor’s note, a letter from your healthcare provider stating that you were in the hospital due to illness) to the program director.
- Extensions: A student who is unable to complete coursework due to illness or injury will be granted an extension of one week (7 days) to submit the missed assignments. No extensions can be made past the close of the semester for any reason.
- Communication: During the illness or injury, the student is expected to stay in communication with their instructors regarding any adjustments or accommodations that may be needed.
- No Penalty: There will be no penalty to the student’s grade for missed assignments due to illness or injury for the one-week (7-day) extension.
It is important to note that this policy does not apply to planned absences. In cases where a student knows in advance that they will be absent due to a medical procedure or other planned medical absence, they should make arrangements with their online advisor and program director in advance.
Worsham encourages students to seek appropriate medical care and rest during periods of illness or injury.
This policy applies to all college courses.
